Activation, dryland, neuromuscular connection and reaction drills, mental preparation.
We will explore some often overlooked aspects of training and learn how to utilize them to maximize performance in the water.
There will be a total of 2 clinic sessions, one for Athletes and one for Parents. Clinics are recommended for swimmers with at least two years of competitive swimming experience. Swimmers under the age of 10 are not recommended without the approval of their coach.
Activating like a professional, Reaction Drills, Training with Intention, Body Line, Streamlines, Underwater Kicking Strategies 101
– How should I approach and leave the wall to maximize speed?
– Does it matter where I position my feet? How does that impact my rotation?
– How do my head and hip positions positively or negatively impact my speed?
– How should I initiate underwater dolphin kicks? From my chest, hips, or legs?
– How many dolphin kicks should I take? Should I vary the amplitude of my kicks?
– What do rising CO2 levels have to do with the urge to breathe? Should I listen to my body?
– How does breathing impact speed and buoyancy?
– How do I know when it’s time to breakout?
We will cover all of this and more in our classroom session as we study footage of different high level athletes across various races. As we dissect and discuss each video, we will teach you how to fine tune your approach and how subtle adjustments may be required when racing a 50, 100, or 200.
Next, through a series of movements and exercises on land, we will identify individual areas of strengths and weaknesses pertaining to mobility and discuss how it can impact your performance as well as ways to fortify or improve those areas. We will prime neuromuscular connection through a dynamic warmup, incorporating reaction drills to set us up to effectively carry the cross body connection and strong core developed on land into the water. This is one of the easiest ways to pick up and maintain FREE speed.
Finally, we will build upon our classroom and land work and learn how to maintain optimal body lines and posture when exiting the wall.
