Athlete Sessions are designed in a fluid and progressive manner, allowing athletes to learn the intricacies of the covered skill(s), build upon foundations developed in prior sessions, and move closer towards achieving their personal goals.
Athlete Sessions will include both classroom video analysis and in-water skills development and application.
One Parent Session on Supporting Your Developing Athlete 101 will be offered during the Day 2 in-water portion of the Athlete Session.

Activation, dryland, neuromuscular connection and reaction drills, mental preparation.
We will explore some often overlooked aspects of training and learn how to utilize them to maximize performance in the water.
There will be a total of 3 clinic sessions, 2 for each age group. Clinics are recommended for swimmers with at least two years of competitive swimming experience. Swimmers under the age of 10 are not recommended without the approval of their coach.
Activating like a professional, Reaction Drills, Body Line, Streamlines, Breathing Strategies 101
– How do my head and hip positions positively or negatively impact my speed?
– How do my catch and pull pattern affect my body line and body posture and in turn, my speed?
– What are the secrets to holding a great line and maintaining forward momentum during a breath?
– What is the ideal hand position through the catch, pull, push, and recovery phases of the stroke?
We will cover all of this and more in our classroom session as we study footage of different high level athletes across various races. As we dissect and discuss each video, we will teach you how to fine tune your approach and how subtle adjustments may be required when racing a 50, 100, or 200.
Next, through a series of movements and exercises on land, we will identify individual areas of strengths and weaknesses pertaining to mobility and discuss how it can impact your performance as well as ways to fortify or improve those areas. We will prime neuromuscular connection through a dynamic warmup, incorporating reaction drills to set us up to effectively carry the cross body connection and strong core developed on land into the water. This is one of the easiest ways to pick up and maintain FREE speed.
Finally, we will build upon our classroom and land work and learn how to maintain optimal body lines and posture between and while breathing.
Dryland + Reaction Drills, Body Line, Head + Hip Positions, Pull Patterns, Timing the Breath
– How does breathing impact speed and buoyancy?
– What kind of breathing pattern should I employ in a 100 vs 200?
– Should I release air as I’m kicking underwater off the wall and why?
– What do rising CO2 levels have to do with the urge to breathe? Should I listen to my body?
– How do I set up and time the rotation and Freestyle pull in my Backstroke turn?
We will cover all of this and more to help you improve your understanding of the strategies and qualities required to put together a great Backstroke race!
